Music in CS:S

Oh man you in those moods to just rock out to some music and spam some of your teammates?

First you'll need :
HLSS > http://www.hlss.us/index.php?p=1
dBPowerAMP Music Converter > http://www.hlss.us/index.php?p=1

and now once you have downloaded those programs.

Get ready to rock out (in a couple of seconds)

First get HLSS up, and the first time that you start it up you'll get an annoying pop up box saying that it needs to find your CS:S directory,

you possibly know where it is, if not just let it "Auto-Find". Usually its "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\user_name\counter-strike source\"

If doing it itself or letting it auto find it, make sure it finishes on "counter-strike source\" and not "cstrike\"

Now click on the 5th little icon across

and now click Counter Strike, and click setup,
A little/big box will come up with VALUABLE information.

insert to play the .wav
delete to toggle a wav on/off

If for some UNKNOWN reason that didn't work, put this code into your cstrike\autoexec.cfg file

// Half-Life Sound Selector Script
// Script by Solid Snake 88 & Disk2

alias +PlayWAV "voice_inputfromfile 1; voice_loopback 1; +voicerecord"
alias -PlayWAV "voice_inputfromfile 0; voice_loopback 0; -voicerecord"
alias StartWAV "voice_inputfromfile 1; voice_loopback 1; +voicerecord; alias ToggleWAV StopWAV"
alias StopWAV "voice_inputfromfile 0; voice_loopback 0; -voicerecord; alias ToggleWAV StartWAV"
alias ToggleWAV "StartWAV"

echo "Hold down INSERT to play a WAV."
echo "Press DELETE to toggle the WAV On/Off."

kool.
now for the fun part.

find any music file (preferably a mp3 or wav file) and right click on it. Wow... you now should have a nice "Convert to" in your right click.
if you dont... then did you install dBPowerAMP?? (or just go for a restart)

if you still dont after a restart then just open up dBPowerAMP and select the file you want to listen to on css.

so you'll have something looking like this:

Well this is what you want it to look like, now change all the variables to what you see here.

Wave
16 Bit (CD)
11025Hz - This is correct
1 'Mono"

its 11025 for CS:S
8000 is CS

now just go convert!

feel the anticipation growing?

now dont click on the shaded one, click on the one next to it. The + sign.

Now find your file that you just converted, THE CONVERTED FILE, not the original
and bind it to like F11, its easy that way.

Hey presto your about to do it. Now quickly press the Thumbs Up button, and it should minimize, (dont worry its meant to do that).

Load CSS and jump in a server, and press your dam Delete Key! WOOOT its playing!!

if its not then just email me and ill suggest somethings to redo!

Changing your menu

Okay for a start this is kinda a hack. And my definition of "Hack" is to code. Not the media's version that everyone believes.

Under cstrike\resource there is a file called GameMenu.res

(well its not actually there but that is where CSS looks for it.)

This is what your game menu text function does, what it says and whether its shown as an ingame menu or as a normal menu.

If you would like the default file to see how it looks you can download it here
(hosted by my friends @ boganproductions.com)

Once you have downloaded that file (i suggest you do)
Open it up in wordpad. It should look something like this:

Now all you have to do is change the "#GameIU_GameMenu_Resume" to "Resume" or a word that you want for "Resume" and your ready to rock!

Now do that for the rest of them and make sure you save it!

Now open CS:S up and bast in the glory of your first of many hacks to come!

Simple modifications

Okay as my first tutorial, i will teach you how to easily modify your models to ones you may like.

First

You need to navigate to your CounterStrike: Source Install directory.

For steam users. Go to:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\user_name\counter-strike source\cstrike

now if this is your first time the easiest thing to do is to go to www.fpsbanana.com and download a weapon that you would like to change.

In the near future i will post up my weapons that i have on my mod.

I suggest if your new to this go for a knife skin:
1. http://www.fpsbanana.com/skins/5171 (if you choose this, I dont suggest you do sounds. The rightclick stab sound is bad)
2. http://www.fpsbanana.com/skins/42141

These ones i prefer over the others to date.

Once downloaded there should be either a cstrike folder with all the directories that you need to extract or just 3 folders.

Eg:

Next just extract these 3 folders to the correct directory. So go into materials>models and extract the weapons folder. Now go into the models folder and extract the weapons folder and do the same to sound.

Start up CSS with steam or launcher, and hey presto you have a valuable knife, ready to stab your opposition in the back!
